Who is Joan Miro?
Joan Miro (1893-1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist whose playful, colorful work bridges Surrealism and abstraction. Miro developed a distinctive visual vocabulary of biomorphic shapes, stars, moons, and stylized figures that suggest a childlike yet sophisticated cosmic vision. A master of automatism, Miro allowed spontaneous gesture to guide his compositions, creating works that feel simultaneously planned and accidental. His paintings like ‘The Harlequin’s Carnival’ and ‘Constellations’ series established him as a major 20th-century artist. Unlike the hyperrealism of Dali, Miro’s Abstract Surrealism influenced Abstract Expressionism and continues inspiring artists working with organic, intuitive forms.
