What Surrealist games can I play?

Surrealists invented games to access collective unconscious imagery through play. Beyond the famous Exquisite Corpse, try these: ‘The Exquisite Corpse’ for writing-each person adds a sentence without seeing previous ones. ‘Oui ou Non’ (Yes or No)-answer questions only with yes or no, accepting whatever emerges. ‘Irrational Embellishment’-one person describes an object, others add impossible qualities. ‘The Analogy Game’-complete phrases like ‘If [X] were a color, it would be…’ ‘Automatic Drawing’ parties-everyone draws simultaneously without conscious planning. ‘Object Creation’-combine random found objects into Surrealist sculptures. ‘Simulation’-enact scenarios like ‘a man who cannot forget’ and respond spontaneously. These games encourage automatism, chance, and collaboration while bypassing rational censorship. They remain valuable for generating unexpected imagery and ideas.
